RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Reno man has been placed on probation and fined $1,000 for shooting a golfer whose errant ball broke a bedroom window at his home.

Jeff Fleming was put on probation for up to 60 months at a sentencing hearing Thursday in Washoe County District Court.

The 53-year-old Fleming faced as much as 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine after he earlier pleaded guilty to a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon.

The unidentified golfer who struck Fleming's house in September 2012 took a drop and was attempting to play his next shot on the Lakeridge Golf Course when Fleming fired a shotgun at him. The golfer was treated at a hospital for minor injuries to an arm and both legs.

Fleming's attorney, Larry Dunn, says his client was just waking up when the stray ball shattered his bedroom window, startled him and sprayed him with glass shards. He says Fleming thought he was being "shot at" and fired at the golfer from some 50 yards away in an attempt to scare him, not injure him.

Kramer, you have no room to complain about writing style when you use "Y" and "U" instead of the actual words, not to mention your confused capitalization. That's something they teach in elementary school, so what's your excuse? Apparently, you lack basic education.

'a man gets' is pretty weak reporting (sounds like uh, man). Usually it's "Man"; Y not 'homeowner' or "startled resident"? The defense is weak; if someone is shooting at you and penetrates a window, Y would U walk outside with a shotgun? just do the pawnbroker snipe from upstairs, U know?

Defense sounds plausible. Golf ball could be a deadly weapon.
