RENO, Nev. (AP) — Rescuers in Reno say a man is missing after he fell into the swollen Truckee River while swinging on tree branches.

Reno Fire Battalion Chief Todd Keckley says crews called off their search about 7:45 p.m. Sunday, roughly two hours after the middle-aged man was reported missing.

Keckley says the man was swinging on tree boughs with his friend when a bough broke and he dropped into the water near the Sutro Street Bridge. The friend told authorities he never saw the man get out of the river, which was close to flood level after heavy weekend rains.

Fire crews say they used boats and trained swimmers in their search effort.

Authorities say the man lives in a camp near the river. His name hasn't been released.
