RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Washoe County District Attorney's Office says Cesar Manuel Bernal-Cuadra, 21, was sentenced to prison on Feb 21, 2013.
Bernal-Cuadra was convicted by a jury on Dec 6, 2012 of DUI Causing Death after hitting Charles “Doc” Heinemann as he crossed the intersection of 8th and Virginia on Oct. 22, 2011. Heinemann died at the hospital. Surveillance footage showed that Heinemann was lawfully crossing in a marked crosswalk when he was struck.
WCDA's Office says blood and urine tests after the crash showed an illegal amount of marijuana in Bernal-Cuadra’s system.
Bernal-Cuadra’s girlfriend and infant child were passengers in the car.
Heinemann, 63, a California resident, was a retired carpenter.
Bernal-Cuadra has a prior DUI conviction stemming from a May 2010 arrest. The prior case also involved marijuana.
