RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A man has been sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in prison for the sexual assault of a child, according to the Washoe County District Attorney's Office.
Miguel Ojeda-Enriquez, 28, represented by defense attorney, Joe Merkin, pled guilty to two counts of sexual assault of a child. He was sentenced Jan. 23. His sentence has the possibility of parole only after serving 70 years in Nevada State Prison.
The DA's Office says Ojeda-Enriquez subjected the nine-year-old victim, the daughter of his girlfriend with whom he has two children, to acts of lewdness, attempted sexual assault and ultimately digital, oral, vaginal and anal sex for 13 months.
The Sparks Police Department detectives were able to secure DNA evidence that linked Ojeda-Enriquez to the victim and incriminating statements from him during a mirandized interview.
Ojeda-Enriquez justified his actions to the police detectives by stating that the victim tempted him because she wanted goodies or sugar, and she "let him do it" if he gave her treats or let her visit her grandmother. According to the DA's Office, Ojeda-Enriquez maintained that he never had intercourse with her, since he didn’t put his penis all the way inside her.
During the sentencing, Ojeda-Enriquez said the District Attorney has painted him as a pedophile or a child molester, but that he is not that. He told the judge to remember how much he has suffered over the last two years and that this has destroyed his life.
Judge Flanagan, while sentencing Odeja-Enriquez to two consecutive life sentences, told the defendant “You have imposed a life sentence on that little girl.”
