NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — North Las Vegas police say a 52-year-old man was taken to the hospital in serious condition after exchanging fire with officers.

Police say they responded about 7 p.m. Sunday to reports of a man trying to hurt himself on Winterdale Street, near Hammer Lane and Valley Drive.

Investigators say five officers went into the home to try contacting the man when he fired a gun at officers. Police say two officers returned fire.

The suspect surrendered to police and was taken to University Medical Center. No police were injured.

The two officers were placed on paid administrative leave as the investigation continues.
