SPARKS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The driver of the motorcycle from the deadly crash on Thanksgiving has been identified as Fred Paul Canepa, a 73-year-old Sparks resident.
The crash happened Nov. 22 around 7:15 on Sparks Boulevard, south of Disc Drive. Sparks Police say the motorcyclist cut a turn too tight and ended up travelling south in the inside lane of northbound Sparks Boulevard. A smaller vehicle was coming right at him, and it appeared he tried to jump the median to get into the southbound lanes of travel. While attempting to get over the median, police say the motorcycle and its rider went down, and skidded in the inside lane of southbound Sparks Boulevard. Witnesses said it appeared the rider then got to his hands and knees and was attempting to get to his feet when he was struck by a SUV that was south on Sparks Boulevard.
The driver of the SUV reported that it was dark in that area of the road, and she never saw the cyclist in the roadway. Police say alcohol was not a factor with the driver of the SUV, and it is unknown at this time if it played a role in the accident of the motorcycle.
