RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Washoe County District Attorney Dick Gammick says he believes a mentally ill man's death last year was not the result of police officer actions.
Micah Abbey died on Christmas last year of cardiac arrest after being restrained by police. Gammick's report says Abbey was tased 26 times and the tasers were ineffective. Abbey continued to fight even after he was in restraints. He soon stopped breathing and attempts by paramedics to revive him didn't work.
According to Gammick, although the coroner ruled the death a homocide, there is no evidence that Abbey was killed by the officer. If he had surrendered, he may not have had a heart attack.
