RENO, Nev. (KRNV & Mynews4.com) -- Small business owner Mike Steedman announced his plans to run for Reno City Council Ward 4, the seat being vacated by Dwight Dortch, who is term-limited.

Steedman owns several businesses, including Truckee River Paint and Wallpaper, and the Studio on 4 Performing Art Venue, which currently employ five full-time and several part-time workers.

Steedman serves on the Northeast Neighborhood Advisory Board and is a member of the City of Reno’s Redevelopment Agency’s Advisory Board, the Sierra Arts Foundation Board and the Advisory Board of the Holland Project. He has also served as a member of the Associated General Contractors and the Builders Association of Northern Nevada.

I have known Mike Steedman for several years. I know that he has been in court several times for non-payment of child support, and that he has had his contractor's license revoked for non-payment of fees. I am not sure that someone who manipulates the system so well should be representing Reno; it just further tarnishes our image.
