UPDATE: The Washoe County Sheriff's Office says an 83-year-old Helen "Elaine" Haines who disappeared on Friday, August 16th has been found safe and was reunited with her family.
Haines was located on the north side of the Truckee River just west of McCarran about 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Haines was found by members of her church group who had volunteered to assist the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Unit with the search.
More than 300 church volunteers joined in on the search for Haines.
Volunteers searched from the area of the park, along the Truckee River and into downtown Reno. The Sheriff’s RAVEN Helicopter searched from the sky.
Washoe County Undersheriff Tim Kuzanek said he was extremely pleased that Mrs. Haines was found safe and wanted to thank all those who took part in this successful search effort.
“Mrs. Haines is with her family again thanks to the enthusiastic response of a concerned community, including days of hard work contributed by a highly organized group from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints,” Undersheriff Kuzanek said. “We want to make sure that everyone who took part in this search knows how much we appreciate their willingness to devote so much time and energy for the sake of another.”
UPDATE 10 a.m.: Washoe County Sheriff's Office RAVEN helicopter and family and friends of the missing woman have joined in on the search for Haines Saturday morning. Bob Harmon from WCSO says they believe Haines might have been headed east to Downtown Reno after she went missing from Mayberry Park. The search efforts are concentrated around park. If you have any information on Haines whereabouts you are asked to call 911.
RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - Washoe County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue is currently looking for an elderly female last seen walking in the area of Mayberry River Park around 11:00 a.m. Friday morning.
Helen "Elaine" Haines is described as an 83-year-old white female, 5 feet 5 inches in height, 175 pounds with gray hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing blue pants and a blue, or red and white striped, blouse.
Haines was last see walking eastbound in the area of White Fir Street and the river walk at Mayberry Park. Anyone who has seen Haines, or has information about her whereabouts, is asked to contact the Washoe County Sheriff's Office immediately at (775) 785-WCSO (9276) or 911.
