WEST WENDOVER, Nev. (AP) — A 52-year-old Montello man has been charged with attempted murder after Elko County sheriff's deputies say he tried to kill his ex-wife.

Lane W. Shelton is accused of firing a handgun at the woman during a domestic dispute at his home Tuesday afternoon about 10 miles northwest of West Wendover.

Undersheriff Clair Morris told the Elko Daily Free Press that Shelton shot at her through the living room window after she left the house and was crossing the front lawn. He missed and she was able to safely reach a neighbor's house, where she called the sheriff.

Deputies found an empty shell casing at his house and a handgun in his vehicle.

His bail is set at $100,000.

Send him to trial in Reno, he will be patted on the back, given a wink and turned loose.
