FERNLEY, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The Nevada Highway Patrol has released more details in the fatal accident that claimed the life of a 5-year-old on Thursday.
At approximately 4 p.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to a residence on 7th Street, near “E” Street, to assist the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office with an accident involving a 5-year-old girl who had been fatally struck by a motor vehicle.
The investigation indicates that 5-year-old Alysia Simper of Fernley was riding her tricycle on the adjacent sidewalk along 7th Street, with another child who was riding a scooter. Both young girls were accompanied by Alysia’s grandmother, who was riding a bicycle with them.
The grandmother briefly stopped to assist the other child, while Alysia continued to pedal her cycle on the sidewalk alone for a short distance. She was subsequently struck by a moving vehicle.
53-year-old Patricia A. Anderson of Fernley was backing her car out of her driveway onto 7th Street and failed to observe the tricycle. The rear portion of the sedan struck Alysia and she was ejected from her tricycle as the sedan backed over her.
The injuries to Alysia were fatal and she was pronounced deceased at the scene. Anderson displayed signs of intoxication and was subsequently arrested by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office for felony DUI causing death.
