UPDATE - 11/23/12 - 11:50AM - Sparks Police have determined that the motorcyclist was west on Disc Dr, turning south on to Sparks Boulevard. He cut the turn too tight and ended up travelling south in the inside lane of northbound Sparks Boulevard. A smaller vehicle was coming right at him, and it appeared he tried to jump the median to get into the southbound lanes of travel.

While attempting to get over the median, police say the motorcycle and its rider went down, and skidded in the inside lane of southbound Sparks Boulevard.

Witnesses said it appeared the rider then got to his hands and knees and was attempting to get to his feet when he was struck by a SUV that was south on Sparks Boulevard.

The driver of the SUV reported that it was dark in that area of the road, and she never saw the cyclist in the roadway. Police say alcohol was not a factor with the driver of the SUV, and it is unknown at this time if it played a role in the accident of the motorcycle. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Drove by this wreck last night after the roads had been closed and police and ambulance were on site. Said a little prayer that all was well with all involved. Now I hope for some healing for the family and friends left behind.
