RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- A construction project scheduled on Mount Rose Highway has been postponed due to weather.

Starting Monday and lasting throughout the week, helicopters were scheduled to install wire mesh cover on the Mount Rose Highway roadside slope to help reduce rock fall. A NDOT spokesperson tells News 4 they hope to resume to this project beginning Wednesday at 6 a.m.

During flight operations, the Mount Rose Summit rest area will be closed completely to allow for helicopter landing, fueling and loading.

This work is part of NDOT’s approximately $10 million project by contractor Granite Construction to repave and improve Mt. Rose Highway from the highway’s base in south Reno to the Mt. Rose summit. Safety enhancements -- 18,000 linear feet of new guardrail and drainage improvements -- will also be included. The project is currently scheduled to complete next summer.
