SUN VALLEY, Nev. ( & KRNV) -- Eight passengers, mostly children, were sent to Renown after a head-on collision in Sun Valley on Monday. It happened at the crossroads of Highland Ranch Parkway and Midnight Drive at around 6:15 p.m.

Truckee Meadows fire crews said nine people were in the two cars when they collided, and of the nine, six were children. Two of the adults had to be extricated from the cars, and fire crews described their injuries as significant. One child was left unharmed.

Battalion Chief Dave French said everyone was wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. "Seatbelts were very important for safety tonight. With the collision, with the impact, it did keep them in restrain like we want them to be."

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
