RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The Department of Public Safety-Office of Traffic Safety has awarded The Nevada Highway Patrol-Northern Command West $73,500 dollars in federal funds as part of a grant for the “Joining Forces” campaign. The Dept. of Public Safety says the goal of this grant is to reduce deaths and serious injuries suffered by drivers involved in traffic collisions.

“Joining Forces” is a federally funded grant geared toward having state, county, and local law enforcement agencies “Join Forces” in an effort to enforce key areas of traffic safety.

The agencies participating in the grant will be “Joining Forces” and conducting activities and annual initiatives for speed enforcement; crosswalk, pedestrian and intersection enforcement; the multiple seat belt or “Click it or Ticket” mobilization campaigns, distracted driving, as well as DUI roadblocks and saturation patrols. Dept. of Public Safety says the federal funds will primarily be used to allow additional law enforcement officers to focus on these specific initiatives and campaigns during the federal fiscal year; October 1, 2012-September 30, 2013.
