NHP selects new Chief

CARSON CITY, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The Nevada Highway Patrol has announced the selection and appointment of the Highway Patrol Division’s newest Chief on Friday. Deputy Chief Dennis Osborn will assume the duties of Chief of NHP beginning Monday.

According to Department of Public Safety Director James M. Wright, Osborn has served with the Department for over 21 years. He joined the Nevada Highway Patrol as a trooper in November 1992. Most recently, Osborn was has been the Commander of the NHP-Southern Command region headquartered in Las Vegas. Osborn earned an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice in 1991, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration in 2009.

Chief Osborn will be the 22nd Chief of the NHP division since the agency was established in 1949. He replaces former Nevada Highway Patrol Chief Troy Abney, who left the department in November.
