GLENBROOK, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Nevada Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash on U.S. Highway 50 near Glenbrook that killed one person and sent four to the hospital on Sunday.
On Sunday, June 9th, at around 2:55 pm, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol say a two-vehicle collision happened on US Highway 50 at Glenbrook in Douglas County. NHP says a white 2011 Toyota Corolla 4-door sedan was traveling west in the left lane of the 4-lane highway and driven by 29-year-old Eduardo A. Vizcarra-Sicairos from Lodi, California. His 24-year-old wife, Reyna Vizcaara, was riding in the right front passenger seat.
Traveling eastbound was a blue Hyundai Elantra 4-door sedan driven by 26-year-old Shanna D. White of Carson City. Shanna had two passengers riding in the vehicle with her; 21-year-old Kellie Kerklay and 21-year-old Katelyn Kraiprai, both from Carson City, NHP says.
For reasons still being investigated, Vizcarra-Sicairos lost control of his vehicle and it skidded sideways across the double-yellow line and into the path of the opposing vehicle. The front of the Hyundai struck the right side of the Toyota, killing Reyna at the scene.
Both vehicles came to rest on their wheels blocking at least two lanes of the highway. All four patients were taken to Renown Regional Medical Center. Shanna and Kellie were treated and released and are recovering at home today, while Katelyn and Eduardo are still being treated at the hospital.
Three of the lanes were blocked for several hours while investigators completed their on-scene portion of the investigation. All travel lanes were cleared and opened at around 7:40 pm.
At the time of the crash heavy rain and hail were falling and the highway was very wet. NHP says weather may have been one of the contributing factors in this collision.
