RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Cut military spending: that was the message at today's National Security Forum hosted by Ty Cobb at the Ramada in Reno.
Leading this morning's gathering was Doctor Chris Preble, Vice-President for Defense and Foreign Policy Studies at the Cato Institute in Washington. Preble believes the United States should cut military spending by encouraging our allies to assume greater responsibility for security in their own regions and pulling out some of our overseas military personnel.
Last year alone, the U.S. spent more than $700 billion in military costs. According to Preble, that amounts to about half of all military spending in the world.
