CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP, & KRNV) -- Anyone who attempted to sign up for health insurance with Nevada's failed insurance exchange will have another 60 days to complete the process.

The Silver State Health Insurance Exchange Board action on Thursday leaves the door open for tens if not hundreds of thousands of people to reapply after open enrollment ends March 31.

Officials say up to 300,000 people may have tried over the past six months to choose a plan over Nevada Health Link but were thwarted by program errors in the system designed by Xerox.

Only about 22,000 people have successfully enrolled and paid for policies since the exchange went live Oct. 1.

Xerox officials had wanted the special enrollment be limited to about 10,000 people who have picked a plan but not yet paid for coverage.

Here we have Chapter Two of the Reno parking meter fiasco. Politicians approve an unworkable insurance exchange that never should have been started in Nevada, then the same politicians(a board)approve throwing more time and money at it. They should be retrieving the 75 mil from Xerox, saving the 1.5 mil for more consulting, and let the private sector oprerate as it used to. Health care and health insurance are not a proper function of government nor responsibility of taxpayers, period.
