CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Senate has overwhelming approved a bill authorizing driving privilege cards for non-U.S. residents.

Monday's vote was 20-1. SB303 now goes to the Assembly where passage is expected. Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval also backs the proposal.

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Mo Denis of Las Vegas says the bill will make Nevada roads safer because it will allow people in the country illegally to take a driving test, obtain a card and obtain insurance.

Driving privilege cards could not be used as official identification and they would have to be renewed annually.

Four states — Utah, New Mexico, Illinois and Washington — currently have similar driving cards.

privilege: How come they have the PRIVILEGE to drive, when they illegally entered the US?? This is a problem with our government. These illegals are causing so many problem yet our Democrats want this? If they, the illegals want to have these privileges why don't they study to become US Citizens!!!! Our politicians only want VOTES, to keep them in their high paying jobs and perks , they are not for the common person. Look at the survey......overwhelming vote for not allowing the illegals to have a lic, yet our politicians don't listen to us.....

As long as we have legislators that prostitute themselves for votes by pandering to certain ethnic groups we will continue to see terrible legislation!

Driving has always been a privilge. Not a right like most people think it is.Your here in our country illegally and this is just another thing that rewards all of you for breaking the law. I wonder if being able to drive how many are going to drive without insurance? Just my like that I would be in a accident with someone without insurance and then it cost me to repair my vehicle or having my medical bills having to be paid by me just because the state of Nevada decides to give illegals the license to drive. This is a bad mistake. Maybe it is time to get out of Nevada. It is becoming to much like California where I left.
