RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The Nevada athletic department will be holding a food drive at Friday’s regular-season soccer opener to benefit the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

The Aug. 22 contest against No. 25 Denver, will be held in town at Moana Field at 4:30 p.m. with free admission. Fans in attendance are encouraged to bring donations. Last year, 1,162 pounds of food were collected for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada when a program-record of 1,050 fans turned out for the inaugural soccer match at Moana Field.

Wolf Pack Athletics say they have an on-going partnership with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada with the goal of creating 'One Hunger-Free Community, One Pack.'

Wolf Pack student-athletes, coaches and staff have participated in volunteer activities with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada over the past four years, including packing food at the Food Bank, hosting a 'Pack the Pack' Pay-it-Forward Party for the Backpack Kids program --as well as holding food drives at soccer and men’s and women’s basketball home games.
