RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A total of 37 University of Nevada student-athletes representing four sports were named Thursday to the fall 2012 Academic All-Mountain West Team.
The team represents cross country, football, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball and Nevada’s 37 honorees were part of a league-record 409 student-athletes on the 2012 fall team.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
Nevada had 13 football players selected, led by graduate students Brandon Wimberly, Zach Sudfeld and Allen Hardison. Other Wolf Pack players honored were: Joel Bitonio, Danny DeCarlo, Burton De Koning, Colin Ditsworth, Jordan Dobrich, Cody Fajardo, Stephen Jeffers, Gabe Lee, Markus Smith and Connor Talbott.
The Nevada volleyball team had nine honorees: Grace Anxo, Janelle Batista, Kelly Chang, Dana Holt, Elissa Ji, Kara Kasser, Sommer King, Megan Mize and Bonnie Paul.
Eight cross country runners made the team: Samantha Diaz, Mariah Gramolini, Amber Karnofel, Demerey Kirsch, Nicole Painter, Erika Root, Anne Underwood and Christina Works.
Wolf Pack soccer was represented on the team by seven players: Kristi Cascio, Alyissa deRonde, Chrisalyn Fonte, Daisha Jones-Oglesby, Madison Lorenzen, Kellyn Morning and Sarah Schmeda.
