LAS VEGAS (AP) — The unveiling of a new state Vietnam War memorial will cap Memorial Day observances in Nevada.

Sen. Harry Reid and Gov. Brian Sandoval attended a ceremony at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley on Monday, where they helped unveil the memorial wall.

Reno residents attended a pancake breakfast that raised money to send veterans to visit the larger memorials in Washington D.C.

In nearby Virginia City, members of a Civil War group dressed in period uniforms and held a cemetery ceremony for veterans of that long-ago war.

In Las Vegas, Sen. Dean Heller and Mayor Carolyn Goodman attended a ceremony at the Palm Downtown Mortuary and Cemetery.

Heller called upon Nevadans to remember not only fallen soldiers, but also their families and loved ones, who sacrificed as well.
