CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Taxable sales in Nevada rose 1.7 percent in December over the same month in 2012.

A report released Wednesday by the Department of Taxation shows Nevada merchants sold $4.4 billion in goods, with notable gains in sales of vehicles and parts, building and garden supplies and professional and technical services.

Northern Nevada's Washoe County posted a big increase of 13.1 percent in taxable sales, while Clark County in southern Nevada saw gains of 2.5 percent.

Seven of Nevada's 17 counties saw an increase in sales activity in December compared with the same month a year earlier.

Based on those sales, the state collected $344.7 million in taxes, an increase of 2.4 percent.
