LAS VEGAS, NV – The No. 3 seed Nevada women’s basketball team pulled out a 53-48 win over sixth-seeded San Diego State in Tuesday night’s quarterfinals contest of the 2014 Reese’s Mountain West Women’s Basketball Championships.

The Wolf Pack (18-12) will face No. 2 seed Fresno State in a semifinals matchup this Friday (March 14) at 2:30 p.m. Fresno State defeated No. 7 seeded UNLV earlier in the day to reach the semifinals.

Mimi Mungedi, and SDSU’s Cierra Warren, each collected seven blocks in the game, setting a new Mountain West Tournament record. Mungedi has posted 55 blocks this season and is two blocks shy of setting a new Nevada single-season record. She added 10 points and four rebounds in the game as well.

Nevada took a 26-21 lead into halftime, despite shooting just 9-of-29 (31 percent) from the field, and being outrebounded 20-13. Nearing the halfway mark of the second half, the Wolf Pack trailed the Aztecs (13-17) by three with 11:05 remaining. Over the course of the next five minutes, the team used a 12-0 run to regain the lead, a lead they would not relinquish.

With five seconds to play, SDSU’s Chloe Johnson hit a floating jump shot that brought her team to within three, 51-48. On the ensuing inbound play, senior Danika Sharp was fouled and sent to the free throw line for a pair of shots. Sharp hit both free throw attempts, sealing Nevada’s place in Friday’s semifinals game.

Sharp finished with a team-high 12 points after hitting three shots from the three-point line. Nyasha LeSure chipped in nine points from the bench on 3-of-6 shooting. Senior Arielle Wideman dished out a team-best seven assists and recorded three steals. The Wolf Pack shot just 29.6 percent in the game, but held its opposition to go 0-of-9 from beyond the arc.

Friday’s semifinals contest against second-seeded Fresno State begins at 2:30 p.m. and can be seen on the Mountain West Network.
