CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Brian Sandford, a former editor and reporter at newspapers in Oregon, Washington, Iowa and Florida, has been named the new editor of the Nevada Appeal.

Mark Raymond, publisher of the Carson City newspaper, said Wednesday the 37-year-old Ohio native was hired partly because of his prior experience in two Western state capitals.

Sandford most recently served as night city editor for the Tacoma News Tribune and the Olympian in Olympia, Wash. Before moving to Washington in 2006, he was assistant news editor for the Statesman Journal in Salem, Ore.

Sandford also worked at the Quad-City Times in Iowa, the Tampa Tribune, South Tampa News and Carrollwood News in Tampa, Fla. He attended the University of Akron and he earned his degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa.
