SPARKS, Nev. ( & KRNV) -- More than 20 rib cookers from around the world squared off this weekend for a chance to be crowned 'Best in the West'; and we will know at 2 p.m. this afternoon who will be the big winner.

A carefully selected panel of judged were on hand Sunday to determine who makes the best ribs in the West.

The judges were no permitted to sample any ribs before the judging took place and ate the same ribs served to customers during the cookoff.

"Well, it's a big deal for the rib cookers... and it's all about the transparency. That this is a big deal for them; it's the biggest rib cookoff in the country," says Alan Zeman, executive chef for the Nugget.

The Nugget Rib Cookoff also goes out with a bang; Rib Village continues to bustle, with all food booths open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and main stage entertainment is ongoing.
