SPARKS, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Just in time for football season, there is a new spot to place your bets. The Nugget has opened a new branch of the William Hill Sports Book empire.

"This is really exciting," said William Hill CEO Joe Asher. "Look at the crowd we have in here in the middle of the afternoon on a Thursday. It's just tremendous."

The room was packed as leaders of William Hill and the Nugget cut the ribbon on their new sports book. Nugget CEO Carlton Geer said he is glad it now feels like it is part of the casino. "It's a totally different experience. First of all you can see the sports book from across the way. So it's like an energy zone now. Instead of being a dead zone down stairs."

Asher said they're looking forward to an increase in traffic. "The old book was down in the basement and you wouldn't see this many people in a week."

With football season underway, they hope that momentum continues through the fall. "NFL is the big reason people come to sports books," said Geer.

"To have this new sports book open in advance of football season was sort of the one thing we all agreed we had to get done," added Asher.

There is no shortage of screens to watch the games on. "We have a new video wall here. There's a lot of TVs. Both here in the book and around the bar that's right behind us," said Asher. "We're going to add a couple of more TVs. You can never have too many TVs in a sports book. That's for sure."

Geer hopes the new sports book will draw in new customers. "It's all part of our global plan to create a reason for people to come to the Nugget."

The new sports book is part of the multi-million dollar renovations the new owners are making to the casino floor, restaurants and the hotel.
