ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Veteran Elko newswoman Lori Gilbert has been nominated by President Barack Obama to serve another term on the board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Gilbert, who has been a board member since 2008, now awaits Senate confirmation.

Sen. Harry Reid praised Gilbert, saying she has been "a trusted voice for Nevadans for years," and he was proud to recommend her reappointment to Obama.

Gilbert is news director for Elko Broadcasting Co.'s KELK and KLKO radio stations. She also is news director and anchor of KENV-TV, Elko's NBC affiliate.

The nonprofit CPB was created by Congress in 1967 to promote public broadcasting. It provides some funding for the Public Broadcasting Service and National Public Radio.

Reid says Gilbert's rural roots have "informed her perspective in working to increase access, diversity and quality dialogue in public broadcasting."
