BEAVER, Utah (AP) — Officials say an off-duty Nevada Highway Patrol trooper was first on the scene of a Utah crash that injured five Las Vegas residents.
Utah authorities say Nevada trooper Clifford Fontaine happened upon the crash near Beaver Monday afternoon and revived a 4-year-old girl with CPR. He's also credited with assessing the other victims and assisting rescuers when they arrived.
The girl was taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition with a possible broken neck.
Officials say speed and a tire blowout likely led to the crash on Interstate 15. Authorities say the 4-year-old and a 6-year-old boy were thrown from the vehicle.
A 9-year-old boy was also hurt, along with 31-year-old driver Patrick Clayton and 26-year-old Eva Enriquez Plascen.
