STAGECOACH, Nev. (KRNV & -Lyon County Sheriff Deputies responded to the 5000 block of Desert Lane in Stagecoach after receiving a 911 call of a woman being shot at 10pm last night.

Upon arrival deputies tell News 4 they found a female subject in the front yard of a residence with an apparent gunshot wound to her upper chest.  The deputies moved her to a safe location and called for medical assistance.

The deputies then approached the residence and were confronted by a male subject wielding a rifle.  The subject was given numerous commands to drop the rifle and after ignoring these commands, raised the rifle and pointed it at the deputy. The deputy shot the man, called for medical assistance, and the subject was taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

The Nevada Division of Investigations Major Crimes Unit and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office F.I.S. Team are handling the investigation.

The deputy was not injured and has been placed on paid administration leave, which is standard protocol for an officer involved shooting.

I've known the family for 30 years, and I know that the man has PTSD from serving our country that went untreated because of the sad state of our country's health care system, especially for's sad. I'm not excusing what he did however if there was some kind of help available to the family after he returned from war, maybe this wouldn't have happened. I pray that everyone gets what they need and we start looking at treating people with mental health issues before something like this happens to more innocent people.
