WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senior Obama administration officials say the U.S. military launched a secret mission earlier this summer to rescue a number of Americans held captive by militants in Syria but failed to find them.

The officials say the American hostages were not at a location where the U.S. believed they were being held. The mission was carried out by several dozen special operations troops who were on the ground inside Syria for a short period of time.

The officials detailed the mission one day after Islamic State militants announced they had beheaded one of the hostages and threatened to kill another.

The officials discussed the mission under ground rules that they would not be identified.

This leak is obviously meant to draw attention away from the failures of foreign policy of this Administration. The "apology tour" and subsequent strategy of appeasement has opened the door for this new ISIS caliphate to emerge. This is not the time to Mirandize these terrorists and send out some sort of arrest warrant. Lobbing a few missiles (like we did after the first World Trade Center Bombing in 93) only emboldens terrorists into attacking us since they think we have no resolve. We need leadership and courage in the White House to protect America against a threat that is building and will eventually land again on our shores if left unaddressed. Look at the chaos in the world when America is weakened by an Alinskyite President whose goal has always been to reduce America's standing in the world. Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Libya, Ukraine, Syria, Egypt, and our own border are all in turmoil. This course needs serious correction.

This administration is the most embarrassing in history. I thought the peanut vendor could never be topped for incompetence, but Obama wins in a landslide. Our position in world politics has been so severely diminished we now look like a third world country. So, yesterday we had the entire middle east crisis raging out of control, a dead US citizen with a grieving family and Obama is out on the golf course all afternoon!! Is their a liberal out there that can honestly defend that??? NO!

There are way too many Americans that travel to hostile places, taking big chances and sometimes making bad choices. Just because your an "American" doesn't mean the Marines or Air Force should come save you because YOU are on your own MISSION! Being an American to some(here we go again) over educated idiot's that think they can romp around the planet with no consequences need to reform of what their Berkley Professors told them. (and even UNR) If I made life choices of putting my self in harms way as a civilian I would never, never, never expect one American Soldier to sacrifice himself for my decision. But that's just me, how many have served from Berkley and UNR? I know of three locals, two have a Doctorates Degree, one with a Bachelors, ran a road block in West Africa. They had their tires shot out because they would not stop! They are total liberals that believe obama will save them no matter their actions. If that were me standing guard, I would have killed everyone in the car per order of my Commander! So, why do Americans think they can act like this?
