CARSON CITY, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- One person is dead and investigators are searching for answers following a plane crash several miles east of Carson City in the Pinion Hills area.
According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, just before 2 P.M. approximately on Sunday afternoon, the Sheriffs Office was informed by a Sheriff's Aero Squadron pilot that during his personal flight time today, he flew over what appeared to be the crash site of a small aircraft. The location of the site was identified as being several miles east of Carson City in the Pinion Hills.
Carson Sheriff's Search and Rescue crews responded into the area and were guided to the crash site by the reporting aircraft pilot. Late this afternoon, a small aircraft was located. Investigators have reported at least one deceased person at the site.
The Sheriff's Office and Carson City Fire Department are coordinating recovery efforts with the NTSB and FAA. Recovery efforts have been suspended for the night and will resume first thing Monday morning when FAA and NTSB authorities are expected to arrive at the investigation scene.
No details regarding the type of aircraft or occupant(s) are being released at this time.
