SPARKS, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- News 4 has learned more details about the explosion that occurred at Sierra Chemical Co. on 2302 Larkin Cir. in Sparks this morning.
According to an official release from the Sparks Police Department, SPD officers responded to Sierra Chemical upon report of an industrial accident at approximately 8:09 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found a tank containing compressed air had exploded. There were no chemicals or fire involved in the explosion, and no other persons were injured. There is no danger to the public as a result of this accident and there is no foul play suspected.
One person, an employee of Sierra Chemical, has died as a result of the explosion. The name of the deceased employee will not be released at this time and there are no further details.
Sparks Police and OSHA are currently investigating this as an industrial accident.

Officials say the explosion occurred at 8:00 a.m. during a testing operation on a 550 gallon package at 2302 Larkin Cir. Friday morning. Sierra Chemical is currently investigating the incident in cooperation with the Reno Fire and Sparks Police department. The employee was filling up a compressed air canister when it exploded, Sparks spokesperson Adam Mayberry said.
