RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- It's an annual event that aims to help thousands of needy families.
The 16th annual Turkey Drop is taking place from 6am to 6pm on Wednesday.
News Talk 780 KOH is hosting the event in the west parking lot of the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa on the corner of Peckham Lane and S. Virginia.
The Salvation Army is asking for anyone who can help to stop by and drop off a frozen turkey.
The goal this year is to gather up 3,500 frozen turkeys. Last year the Turkey Drop asked for the 3,150 frozen turkeys and met that goal between frozen turkeys and cash.
According to Maj. Michael Zielinski with the Salvation Army they've seen an increase in need for services all over Washoe County this year and that is why they are asking for more turkeys.
They will accept cash or non perishable food items as well.
Volunteers with Washoe County Sheriff's office search and rescue are working along side volunteers with the Salvation Army so the donation drop off can be quick.
Volunteers will unload your car for you so you don't even need to get out of your vehicle.
The food will be collected, put into food baskets and distributed to families throughout the county.
If you can't make it out, call (775) 688-4555 to donate to the Salvation Army.
