Pedestrian hit by train in Fernley, dies on scene

FERNLEY, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- A Union Pacific spokesperson has told News 4 that a train traveling from Chicago to Oakland Tuesday morning struck a pedestrian on the tracks near Logan Road in Fernley.

The incident occurred at 6:14 a.m. and the pedestrian died at the scene.

Both the conductor and engineer of the train have accepted peer counseling from Union Pacific and new personnel were assigned to the train, which departed at about 11 a.m.

At this time, the gender of the pedestrian is unknown and it is unclear if the crash was a suicide or an accident. Lyon County officials are investigating the incident.

I heard the call come over the railroad scanner at 6:14AM, the guy stepped right onto the tracks in front of them. Prayers for the crew and family of all involved.
