RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A decision was made by the Pi Beta Phi National Organization and the University over the last couple of weeks to cease the sorority’s operations on campus until at least fall 2015, according to to Jane Tors with University of Nevada, Reno.
Notifications were sent out today to all members of the Pi Beta Phi UNR sorority. Tors says members have until next week to move out of the sorority home. The University has offered to help members if they’re interested, find on-campus housing.
In November, the University was notified by the National Chapter of the Pi Beta Phi about a couple calls that came into the National anti-hazing hotline. They were then placed on suspension, pending an investigation. Tors says during the suspension, students were allowed to live in the sorority house, but could not participate or have sorority activities.
After a collaborative investigation between the national chapter and the University, the result was a loss of recognition of the chapter.
Tors says about 85-100 student members are affected by the move.
