Reno Police now tell News 4 that the reported kidnapping was a fabrication.

The child was playing in an area he was not supposed to, climbed a fence and scraped himself, and did not want to tell his grandparents.

The child invented the kidnapping story to avoid getting in trouble.

RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - Reno Police are investigating a possible attempted kidnapping near Idlewild Park that happened just after two Thanksgiving afternoon.  The attempted kidnapping happened on the 1800 block of Idlewild Drive.

An 8-year-old boy was the target. Police say the attempted kidnapper tried to grab the child, the child broke away from the kidnapper, but sustained a scratch on his stomach.

The kidnapper then ran from the park. He is described as a white male, with shoulder length grey hair, brown eyes, stocky build and is wearing all black clothing.
