Police arrest 1 in Sparks shooting; 1 suspect still outstanding

UPDATE - MAY 10, 2013 - 11:30AM - Sparks Police Department say they spoke with some of the involved parties and independent witnesses who reported that a confrontation erupted between a group of men that are suspected to associate with two rival gangs.

A seventeen-year-old male juvenile was hit in the abdomen by one of the bullets shot by the men. He was taken to Renown Medical Center and released a short time later with a non-life-threatening injury.


Shooting suspect Jake Ryan Torlone was located in the 1700 block of Berkshire in a residence and taken into custody without incident at 1 a.m. today. Torlone was charged with Attempted Murder with a Deadly Weapon, Assault with a Deadly Weapon - Firearm, Possession of a Gun by a Prohibited Person, Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Structure and Discharging a Firearm in a Vehicle. Torlone is being held without bail.

The second suspect, David Lee Cunningham, is still outstanding. He is described as a Black male adult, 5’7 and weighing 200 pounds. Cunningham has a tattoo of a “B” across the front of his neck.

Cunningham is dangerous and may be armed. The public is asked to call the Sparks Police Department or Secret Witness at 322-4900 with information as to Cunningham’s location or known details of the shooting.

UPDATE - 6:30PM - All roads are now open.

Police are looking for a black male and a white male in connection with this shooting.




UPDATE - 5:30PM- There are conflicting reports about the condition of the victim. The condition of the victim is not known at this time.





UPDATE - 4:47PM - According to Sparks Police, a person was shot in the south end of a parking lot on El Rancho and Oddie Street behind Walgreens.

The person has non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses heard three or four gun shots.

There are still outstanding suspects, and police have an apartment on lock down at Lansdowne House Apartments.

Police are not sure if it’s gang-related.

UPDATE - 4:45PM - Sparks Police SWAT team are shouting commands for someone to come out of a second-story apartment.





UPDATE - 4:40PM - Northbound El Rancho is closed, but southbound is open to traffic.

UPDATE- 4:34PM - According to Vicki Campbell with Washoe County School District, the Code Yellow lifted at Rita Cannan Elementary and there was a controlled release of students in the after school program at Bernice Matthews Elementary School.

They have advised High Desert Montessori to lift their lock down.





UPDATE - 4:26PM - One suspect is in custody for questioning, police say.

this webpage takes itself seriously but mostly they can't write very well. I was in the area and a lot of Sparks PD were there blocking a lot of traffic I guess they have to look for expended rounds (no, those aren't donuts). There was a stabbing victim in this area just yesterday Clue-less Nv4 can't even mention that. D. Tracy tune in your watch it has only 4 fingers (that's Mickey Mouse 2 U)
