RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- With the support of local companies and volunteers, Aly's Prom Closet has been able to assist over 2,800 students attend their high school prom.
Aly's Prom Closet was founded in 2002 by Family Counseling Service of Northern Nevada, a local non-profit. Aly's gives free dresses, tuxedo rentals, shoes, hair styles, make-up, and more to financially challenged teens.
Program Chair Becky Blank says more importantly the program offers teens a chance to feel they have the same social opportunities as their fellow classmates.
Students are qualified for Aly's Prom Closet through local high school counselors. Qualification is based off of financial need, or reference through Washoe County Social Services.
Aly's Prom Closet is located on the second level of Shoppers Square Mall on Plumb Lane. The store is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-7 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m.
