RENO, Nev. (AP) — Firefighters reported major progress Friday in their battle against two lightning-caused wildfires in Elko County after one of them crept near a major natural gas pipeline.

The Wieland Fire near Tuscarora was 55 percent contained and the Cattle Guard Fire near Owyhee was 60 percent contained, U.S. Bureau of Land Management officials said.

Fire officials, who had reported 15 percent containment of each brush fire Thursday, expected full containment over the weekend.

No new injuries were reported Friday and no structures were threatened by either fire.

The Tuscarora-area blaze has charred some 4 square miles while the Owyhee-area fire has scorched about 6 square miles.

In southern Nevada, the 19-day-old Carpenter 1 Fire on Mount Charleston, 25 miles northwest of Las Vegas, was 95 percent contained on Friday after blackening some 43.6 square miles.

Sounds like the Smith Creek fire's picking up again-they just moved some more people to it. Also sounds like there's another fire at the end of Ruby Valley, sounds like over towards Clover Valley,it was just called in.
