RENO, Nev. ( & KRNV) – Members of the Regional Street Enforcement Team conducted a prostitution operation focusing on Downtown Reno.

30 year old Vincent Olenik and 35 year old Christen Gomez of Reno, 24 year old Daniel Rashidi of Sparks, 41 year old Jose Ramirez-Negrete and 35 year old David Stoops of Carson City, and 50 year old Jesus Luna of Tulsa, Oklahoma were all either issued a citation or arrested for solicitation for prostitution.

In addition to the men listed, SET detectives were contacted by two females and solicited for sex in exchange for money. One female received a citation while the second female was arrested for several charges.

The Regional Street Enforcement Team would like to remind residents and visitors to the community that all forms of prostitution are illegal in Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County. Prostitution, outside of a licensed brothel, is illegal everywhere in Nevada.

The Regional Street Enforcement Team will continue to conduct operations in areas known for prostitution transactions and will continue to target the customers of prostitution.

Paladin and pals: what about STD's--do you really think that anyone with multiple sex partners on a daily basis is disease free? The AIDS test is only good for the next SINGLE ENCOUNTER.

tonysam, I agree that "trafficking in human beings and underage prostitution should be illegal, BUT the consensual agreement between two adults (without the coersion of a pimp) should be legal. When you legalize it, it takes away most of the attraction for organized crime or pimps to abuse the women and runs their scams. Many countries in Europe have had it legal for decades and it runs quite well over there. Legal prostitution lessens the corrupt influences of pimps and traffickers, tests and keeps the "product" much cleaner and disease free than the illegal alternative and can be taxed as a revenue source. Also when you legalize it, you can focus your enforcement of illegal trafficking and underage much more efficiently. TRULY, if it is consenual, what is the difference between spending $500 on dinner, a show, drinks etc on a date with sex as the outcome and just paying the woman $500 up front for sex?

Trafficking in human beings isn't acceptable, period. Legal prostitution or any kind of prostitution should not exist. Go after the customers and pimps, and the problem will be reduced. Men, and it's almost always men, have no right to purchase other people to use and abuse. Period.

Prostitution only legal in ereas where it doesn't really matter! This state is so schyzophrenic. We were once a libertarian, do what you want and don't let the gov't interfere state. We allowed gambling and quickie divorces but not legal prostitution where is would actually bring in tax revenues and more importantly be tested and controlled on a much wider basis. The illegal call girls and prostitution on the strip in Las Vegas has to be a 100 times larger in $ spent and in all the legal brothels. From informed sources I hear the average decent call girl in Vegas is $1K for a trick and $3K to $5K for the night. Multiply that by several hundred tricks per night and see what we could be taxing and regulating. The rural only brothels are a joke.
