A group of protesters gathered outside the Hobby Lobby on South Virginia Street in Reno this morning. The protest was in response to the Supreme Court ruling exempting the corporation from covering certain types of birth control for their employees. In a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court decided that the 1993 Religious Freedom Restoration Act gave employers the right to withhold certain birth control methods from insurance coverage. Local Hobby Lobby officials allowed the group to protest in front of their store and handed out water to the protesters. Hobby Lobby is based in Oklahoma City and has more than 500 stores nationwide.
