SPARKS, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The daytime Star Spangled Sparks event is moving from the marina to Rail City Casino.

"There was a tremendous event that was already taking place and unfortunately they didn't have the funding for it," said Rail City General Manager Barry Phillips. "So it's easy for us to just step right in and pick up what they've already done and try to grow it here at our property."

Phillips said he is thrilled to a host the event. "We've got food and beverage, crafters, a rock climbing wall. My favorite part is we're going to have a dunk tank, which will feature a lot of our managers from Rail City, including myself will be in there. All the money we raise will go to the Boys and Girls Club."

From dollar hotdogs to free face painting, it's all going down in the casino's east parking lot - after just a few weeks of planning. "We kind of scrambled trying to get it together on short notice, but now we have a whole year to plan it for next year," Phillips said.

Phillips said the one thing they just didn't have enough time to organize is Sparks Idol. "We have karaoke. Anyone can come down and sing. We just don't have the contest that Sparks Idol features."

But that doesn't mean Idol is gone for good. "Would we bring it back? Definitely," Phillips said. "If we can put it together we will. I anticipate us doing this ongoing from now on."

Phillips sees the event growing each year and said you can't beat the location. Since there is a clear view of the Nugget rooftop from the parking lot, if you don't want to leave for the fireworks show you don't have to. "We'll have the music that plays on KKOH radio in conjunction with the fireworks," Phillips said. "So we'll have the music, the fireworks show, it will be just a great night at Rail City."

The new event at Rail City is free to attend and kicks off at 2 p.m. in the east parking lot. That's near the intersection of Victorian Avenue and 21st Street.

The annual Star Spangled Sparks fireworks show at the Nugget and afternoon events at Victorian Square are also still on as planned.
