CARSON CITY, Nev. (Mynews4.com & KRNV) - A woman remains in the hospital tonight after being crushed between a van and a home.  The man driving the van is in jail and law enforcement officials say the crime appears to be totally random.

Leonardo Cardoza, 27, is in jail booked on suspicion of Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injuries, and DUI.  According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office, Cardoza was tailgating a woman and her fiance Saturday night.  He then followed them to a home off of College Parkway where he ran into the woman, pinning her between his van and the house.

Cardoza then allegedly fled the scene and crashed his van through a fence about a block away.  Cardoza then went back to the scene of the crime where he was subdued by neighbors until law enforcement arrived.

Both Cardoza and the victim were transported to the hospital for injuries.

According to Sheriff Ken Furlong, Cardoza has no prior history with the Sheriff's Office. Furlong says at this time there is no motive.

The victim's identity is being witheld.  She suffered broken bones and serious internal injuries.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Detectives Divison at 887-2500.

When the news media reports about a tragic story, speaking from experiance, reporters shouldnt put pictures and videos up of the house and address identifying the victim...when the name of the victim hasnt been released yet....

Sadly, this guy will probably 'get off' with a light sentence....( diminished mental capacity or something ).....if it appears to have NOT been 'premeditated'. So sorry to hear that the lady died. I was reminded of a similar story in the bay area....from the 1980s? I think it was a cab driver...for NO apparent reason plowed his taxi directly into a woman & her 2 SMALL children ( AIMING at the kids ) who were just standing at a bus stop. Obliterated the children between his vehicle & the solid brick wall they were standing in front of.

Paladin. GROW UP! The idiot who drove the van was intentionally out to kill someone. Maybe that's why he was liquored up or high. He probably wanted the state to take care of him for the rest of his life so he could have free meals and a roof over his head.

WOW, I am sure Obama will start a presidential commission to restrict the availability of dangerous looking "black" vans and vans with engines that have more that 4 cylinders. After all it was the van that nearly killed her not the subject in jail.
