Reno, NV (MyNews4.com) -- Long drivers from across Northern Nevada and eastern California are invited to test their mettle, and woods, for a spot in the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship on Friday, June 27 at Sierra Sage Golf Course.
The local qualifying event will be held in the evening from 5 to 9 p.m. and is the pathway to the regional long drive contest in Mesquite, NV, and a potential spot in the national finals televised this fall on the Golf Channel from Las Vegas.
Along with the open division qualifier, junior golfers in two divisions, seniors over 50, masters over 60, and ladies can vie for the crown of Northern Nevada’s Long Drive Champion in their own divisions.
Entry fees in the Open Division at the local level are $40 per try (six balls). You may enter multiple times at a local qualifier to post your highest possible distance. The ultimate goal is to earn a spot at the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship finals, scheduled for September 2014, in scenic Mesquite, Nevada.
Entry fee in the other divisions is $20 per try (six balls) with proceeds going to the Northern California PGA Foundation and its charities http://www.ncpgafoundation.org/).
The RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship will be shown on Golf Channel & NBC. Golf Channel will allow viewers to experience the high-adrenaline excitement of the RE/MAX WLDC, beginning with grassroots qualifying, through regional tilts and culminating with the Finals.
The RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship will be showcased in October on Golf Channel through three primetime specials and the live two-hour finale. Additionally, NBC will air a 60-minute recap show of the entire RE/MAX WLDC later in the year, which will televise golf’s premier long drive talent on network television.
Sierra Sage’s premier practice facilities will be the site of the local qualifying event which will take place “under the lights” -- a great show for competitors and long drive golf fans alike.
