CARSON CITY, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- $4.3 million dollars in Federal Aviation Administration grant money has been earmarked for Nevada's rural airports.
Senator Harry Reid announced Tuesday that 11 grants have been awarded to 10 rural Nevada general aviation airports for airfield improvements. Other nearby airports to receive funding are Silver Springs Airport in Lyon County, Yerington Municipal Airport along with the Fallon Municipal Airport.
“A state like ours--with vast amounts of rural area--depends heavily on our rural airports as an economic driver for the region. Aviation safety must always be ensured, and airport infrastructure is vital to the safe operations of any air carrier,” Senator Reid said.
Funding for the grant package came from the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2012, which Senator Reid championed through the senate.
