WASHINGTON, D.C. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced two grants totaling $460,412 to fight fires in Northern Nevada. The Sparks Fire Department will receive a $403,792 grant and the Mason Valley Fire Protection District will get $56,620 to support operations and to improve safety.

The grants will go towards purchasing much-needed emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training.

“I’m pleased that these grants will provide our firefighters and first responders with the tools they need to help keep Sparks and Mason Valley safe,” Reid said. “Given the devastating wildfires that have affected Northern Nevada in the past, it’s crucial that we give these brave men and women the protection they need in the future.”

The grants come from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
