Reno, Nev (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- For months, there have been questions about whether the Reno Air Races would continue in 2012. Now, we have the answer.
CEO Mike Houghton says it is his objective to have a full event next year. He says there is some work left to be done to make sure they can get the necessary permits to have the 2012 air races, but they are going to work to make that happen.
Most of our viewers know why there was question if the air races would have another event in 2012. That's because of the plane crash into spectators that killed 11 people.
Houghton says he and his staff are in the process of taking every step they can to operate the air races next year.
"Working toward next year is going to take an enormous amount of additional effort, given the tragedy we've been through and we need to work with a number of organizations to secure the needed permits," he said.
Some people have wondered if there would be a change in the way the seating sections are set up, or whether the stands would be further from the action or not. Houghton says it's too soon to answer those kinds of questions, but he expects more information to be released in the new year.
