RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The Reno City Council has approved an ordinance to rezone a portion of the University of Nevada, Reno farms and to uphold the recommendations by the planning commission.

The zoning amendment allows for commercial and light industrial development. The 104 acre parcel is part of the UNR's 1,000 acre main station laboratory on south McCarran Boulevard and Pembroke Drive.

UNR officials say the rezoning is to protect the parcel and its value.

Wolf Pack Meats will not be impacted by the move.
